Tonight, Queen of the South
season 2 premiered on USA, and with that marked an opportunity to see more of the story for Teresa and the rest of the main cast of characters. She is attempting to establish and hold onto more of her power, but when you’re doing that, you best be prepared for a whole lot of people coming at you with demands of their own. This is going to be a part of the next episode, and then also the season as a whole: The challenge. What happens next when you start to build an empire?
One of the classic themes of any drug kingpin movie is that when you’re on top, you think that things get easier and dreams come true. It doesn’t tend to work quite like that. Instead, the more common occurrence is that things often get harder, and characters often have to find new ways to survive in the difficult new reality they find themselves in. This will come for Teresa in some form, but there should also be some fruits of her labor at the same time. The extended promo below (more of a look at the entire season than just the next new episode) spells much of that out: She’s going to have to get her hands dirty, but there will be some happiness here and there along the line.
The best thing to properly remember here is that Queen of the South is based on part on a telenovela. Basically, what that means through the lens of this show is that things are going to get so much crazier before they ever start to simmer down and seem normal. You really have to prepare yourself for that if you’re going to become addicted to the show.
As for next episode, there are a few more details that you can see below:
“Teresa and crew rig a high-stakes narco horse race, but old enemies—and old flames—threaten to tear everything apart.”
Calling this “a few” may even be kind, since there’s not all that much meat to that…
