News: The Stephen King Short Story The Boogeyman Getting Feature Adaptation – A Quiet Place Duo To Write

Twentieth Century Fox is nearing a deal to adapt the Stephen King short story The Boogeyman, with Scott Beck & Bryan Woods (A Quiet Place) set to write the script. 21 Laps’ Shawn Levy Dan Levine and Dan Cohen are producing the film.

The short story was originally published in 1973 and the later released in the 1978 anthology Night Shift. In it, a man recounts t a psychiatrist the circumstances surrounding the deaths of his children, believing they were killed by a creature living in the closet.

The Boogeyman has been adapted into short films seven times, in what King has referred to as “dollar baby deals.” These deals are non-commercial and non-exclusive rights options that allow emerging filmmakers access to material that they normally wouldn’t be able to afford. This will be the first studio feature adaptation for the short story.

It shouldn’t be too much of a surprise that Scott Beck & Bryan Woods, with King praising A Quiet Place. It was a critical and financial hit and a sequel is currently in the works. Their next project is the haunted house horror film Haunt, which they co-wrote and co-directed.
