Jason Statham Tops Box Office with “A Working Man” as Disney’s “Snow White” Struggles

It’s been a tough week for Disney as its latest live-action adaptation, Snow White, failed to maintain momentum at the box office, while Jason Statham’s new action thriller A Working Man unexpectedly surged to the top spot in theaters.
Disney’s reimagining of the beloved fairytale has seen a significant drop in performance during its second weekend. After opening with some promise, Snow White brought in just $14.2 million in the U.S. and Canada over the weekend — a sharp 66% decline from its debut. To date, the film has grossed $66.8 million in North America and a global total of $143.1 million.
With production and marketing costs estimated at a staggering $370 million, Disney faces the possibility of a substantial financial loss. The studio had likely hoped that the film would benefit from strong spring break attendance, but early indicators suggest the anticipated crowds may not materialize.
“Snow White” Faces Harsh Reception and Weak Word of Mouth
Reviews for Snow White haven’t helped its case. The film holds a disappointing 41% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and received a CinemaScore of just B+ from audiences — a lukewarm response for a project of this scale. What’s more, there isn’t much direct competition in theaters targeting the same demographic, especially young women. Family films like Minecraft pose little threat in that regard, but Snow White still hasn’t managed to capitalize on the gap.
One potential silver lining could be the film’s eventual release on Disney+. While it’s unlikely to generate enough new subscriptions to offset the theatrical shortfall, it might at least soften the financial blow over time. However, it’s unclear how much of a long-tail impact the film can make on the streaming platform.
“A Working Man” Delivers a Surprise Hit
In stark contrast, A Working Man exceeded expectations with its strong opening. The gritty thriller, written by none other than Sylvester Stallone, debuted with $15.2 million in North America — narrowly surpassing Snow White and landing at number one in the box office rankings. In Germany, the film has pulled in around €1.3 million so far, which aligns with industry projections.
Despite receiving modest reviews — it holds a 51% score on Rotten Tomatoes — A Working Man has clearly struck a chord with audiences looking for high-stakes action and a more grounded narrative. Jason Statham’s draw as a reliable action star may have played a major role in the film’s unexpected success.
While it’s too early to determine whether A Working Man will have long-term staying power, it’s already made a strong case for itself in its first week — a contrast to the misfortunes of Disney’s lavish production. As the season continues, the film industry will be watching closely to see whether Snow White can recover or if A Working Man continues to dominate the box office in the coming weeks.
